As the sunshine returns and we head into spring, you may want to embrace the change inside your home. You don’t need to redecorate every room with each change of season – just changing a few key accessories or re-designing your space can bring a winter room to life. You’ll feel like you’ve redecorated without having made any substantial investment.

Hold onto some of your current accessories so you can bring them out again in a few months if they suit your winter home.

Follow our interior design tips below to refresh your home in no time at all.

Small and easy changes

If you’re not sure you want to make a big change, or simply don’t have the time or money, changing small accessories can make a room look totally different. Brighten up flower vases, replace dark and dusty lampshades and grab some colourful candles. You can even look at the bigger accessories in your room. Do you have a side table or small bookcase you could replace with something else? If you don’t have any accessories, this is a great excuse to add some. Even books on a coffee table can add some flair to your room and a scented candle can add a touch of spring.

Plants and pots

Add some greenery and bring the outside in. Even in a home without an outdoor space to incorporate the latest garden trends, you can still embrace the joys of spring indoors. If you’re not especially green-fingered, make sure you select low maintenance plants which require little more than an occasional water or trim. Don’t forget to choose some colourful pots and vases to really show off your new additions. See if you can find a flowering option and watch your room blossom before your eyes.

Stick to cheerful colours for a springtime vibe.

Brighten up

Nothing says spring like natural light streaming in through the windows. If you have any rooms or corners which don’t quite catch the sunlight, add a new lamp or change the light bulb to brighten up the space and make it shine. A little more light can also make your room seem more spacious now that the season of closed curtains and cosy spaces is on its way out. Think brighter and whiter.

Swap your fabrics

Rugs, throws, curtains and cushions are all super easy to refresh and completely change the look of a room. Think about bright and colourful designs as well as lighter textures to mirror the lightness of spring. Wool, fur and anything else designed to keep you warm in the winter needs to go. You can easily store the old designs and bring out the heavier fabrics in winter. This update won’t take a minute so is perfect if you are short on time.

Create a feature

This interior design trend isn’t going away, so embrace it for your springtime update. Displaying a striking colour in one part of the room changes the focal point, making your room look like new. If you’re up for repainting, select just one feature wall or ceiling to add some colour so it’s easy to update again in the future. Stick to cheerful colours for a springtime vibe. If you’re not feeling brave enough to get the paint out, you can opt for a piece of art, a mirror or a sculpture to make a feature wall stand out. You can even get modern looking temporary wall coverings which you can peel off when you’re done with them.

Re-frame your art

You may not want to part with your favourite designs or photographs on a seasonal basis, so consider changing just the frames for a quick and easy update, suggests Elle Decor. You can add a splash of colour or lighten the mood with white or pale wood. Try experimenting with sizes and styles too – thicker frames, box frames and shape changes will all help to freshen up your walls and sideboards. Of course, if you’re not attached to your current designs, there’s nothing to stop you changing what’s inside the frames as well.

Nothing says spring like natural light streaming in through the windows.

Move it all around

If you’ve updated your cushions and pulled in some plants and you still want more, rearrange your furniture for a completely new feel to a room. With seasonal changes in light and temperature, you’ll likely use your rooms differently as the year moves on. Perhaps your sofa would be better placed away from the fireplace and closer to the window as the weather gets warmer? You may even find a use for that dark corner or abandoned shelf.

It doesn’t take long to refresh your home. Keep reading the Ray White blog for plenty more home inspiration.
